project : Full Bellies, Full Hearts

Agency: Baby TALK
Location: Decatur, IL
Baby TALK is honored to serve as AVA’s first project! We believe that Baby TALK’s overall mission, and specifically our work with at-risk children and caregivers, make us a good match with the priorities of the project AVA Community.
Agency Overview:
Baby TALK (Teaching Activities for Learning and Knowledge) is an Early Childhood Community Model which serves every family with a child birth to age three. Our mission is “To positively impact child development and nurture healthy parent-child relationships during the critical early years.” Baby TALK comes alongside parents during this critical time to empower and encourage them as parents, providing direct and innovative services to all families, with more intensive services dedicated to families who may be at-risk because of parents’ income, age, or education.
Project Details:
The “Full Bellies, Full Hearts” project will support the nutritional component of programs for at-risk parents and children over a 12-month period. Children who attend Baby TALK programs often arrive hungry. In some instances, this project will mean breakfast for a child in a morning program. It may mean a morning snack for the toddlers in our Family Literacy Classroom. It may mean a healthy prenatal snack for our teen mothers working towards their high school diploma, or lunch provided for our parents during our GED preparation class. It may mean pizza, cocoa and cookies for our 40 community-based families for our annual Christmas party. Meals, snacks and supplements are rarely funded by grants. This is an ongoing program need that has the potential to make a huge difference for families.
On behalf of project AVA, Baby TALK, and the hundreds of families we serve, thank you for your support.
