project: A Cut Above the Rest

project AVA’s “Heartstring” projects are designed to honor loved ones who have gone before us, while at the same time enriching the lives of economically at-risk children. We work closely with the family of the loved one for whom this project has been designed, to ensure the details of the project reflect their passions and help keep their memory alive.

The Heartstring:

Joyce Haws lived 87 full years on this earth. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and Mimi. She worked as an in home beautician, was an active member of her church, and passionately cutvolunteered in her community. Hers was a life of love, giving, kindness, and laughter. Upon her passing in early 2016, her family graciously requested that memorials be made to project AVA in her honor. We are humbled to present a project whose title captures exactly who Joyce was, and what she will always be remembered as: A Cut Above the Rest.

The Project:

In partnership with the Northeast Community Fund, project AVA will provide school age children in need with a free haircut as part of project: A Cut Above the Rest. Our hope is that the children will be left with boosted self-confidence to prepare them for success both academically and socially. Free haircuts will be given on Saturday, October 22nd 2016 from 9am-12:30 pm in the basement of Central Christian Church at 650 W. William St. in Decatur, IL. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Haircuts will be given on a first come, first serve basis as time allows. Bring your children to join us for a fresh haircut and fun fall treats!

Stay tuned for more exciting details about this event!
